1.Trees arise from the earth; their roots grab the soil tightly to absorb nutrients to grow straight toward the sky, the opposite direction of the earth's gravity. “Gravity Release” is the debut series of Ping-Cheng LIANG’s wood sculpture. In which he demonstrates a completely different aspect in wood carving creation.

2.In technical aspect, LIANG couldn’t deliver such a handsome work without having a thorough and deep understanding of his wooden materials. His accurate carving skill successfully brings out a thin and light posture from the heavy existence of a block wood, and even gives them curves. The concept of Gravity Release is the most unique representation of LIANG’s lifetime acknowledge of art and aesthetics. In LIANG’s hand, he takes the wood carving into the next level, from heaviness to lightness, gravity to antigravity, clumsiness to grace, he overturns the established impression of wood sculpture with an unprecedented transformation of wooden materials.

Though choosing to create with traditional materials, LIANG motivates to excite all potentials in wood with his unlimited imaginary. Beginning with sensibility and finishing with rationality, LIANG is not afraid to chisel the wood with all his force. During the process, he enjoys a quiet and personal conversation with his wood. The concept and presentation of Gravity Release establish LIANG’s important position in the history of contemporary sculpture.
